Many pregnant women experience psychological crises or psychological stresses during pregnancy. Taking into account the fact that dreams show dreamers' psychological states and identities, these crises and stresses may be reflected in dreams of pregnant women. However, there have been few studies on dreams related to pregnancy and delivery. We organized previous studies on dreams related to pregnancy and delivery. Most of the studies investigated feelings in dreams and dream contents during pregnancy and they found that many pregnant women had frightening dreams. In addition, these studies indicate that dreams related to pregnancy and delivery should function (1) to facilitate maternity or motherhood of pregnant women, (2) to help them to cope with psychological and physical crises of delivery, and (3) to make them practice mother roles such as nurse. In consideration of these studies, researchers have to study more pregnant women's dreams in order to reveal their psychological states and stresses more in detail. In addition, it is necessary to investigate dreams of fathers-to-be because many couples should have crises during pregnancy and because many fathers-to-be also may experience psychological crises and stresses.
