Fagaceae in the compound of 48 shrines in Ube city, 4 shrines in Aizu-cho, 16 shrines in Kusunoki-cho and 16 shrines in Mito-cho was investigated. Fifteen species, 10 broad-leaf evergreen species and 5 broad-leaf deciduous species, belonging to four genera, were found : Quercus glauca (in 52 shrines), Q.myrsinaefolia (in 13), Q.sessilifolia (in 7), Q.salicina (in 9), Q.acuta (in 2), Q.gilva (in 2), Q.serrata (in 37), Q.variabilis (in 1), Q.acutissima (in 10), Q.aliena (in 1), Lithcarupus edulis (in 1), L.glarba (in 3), Castanopsis cuspidata (in 29), C.cuspidata sieboldii (in 17), and Castanea crenata (in 17). Eight of them were common species through this area and the rest were not. The distributions of the them including common species, however, were different considerably when shrines were divided into 3 districts. Q.phillryaeoides, L.edulis and L.glarba were observed only in an coastal district, Ube city. Meanwhile, Q.glauca and the two species of Castanopsis were dominant in this district. To contrast these, in a moutainous district, Mito-cho, Q.salicina and Q.myrsinaefolia were dominant.
