The reaction of 8-(triphenylphosphoimino)quinoline with aryl aldehydes gave 2-aryl-4H-imidazo[4,5,1-ij]quinolines. In the reaction, tandem aza-Wittig reaction and cyclization attended with hydride shift occurred.
