Pigments of YEDDO-HAWTHORN were most extracted by the sodium hydroxide solution among dilute solutions of sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, acetic acid and water, ethyl ether and acetone. Ultraviolet and visible absorption spectra of the solutions of YEDDO-HAWTHORN pigments which were extracted by above solvents were measured. The YEDDO-HAWTHORN pigments(NaOH, 0.1%) were separated at least twelve fractions by gel filtration with Sephadex LH-20(elution : aceton water (1:1) solvent), but in the gel filtration with Sephadex G-25(elution : pH 7.4 buffer) the greater part of the pigments were adsorpted firmly on the top of the gelcolumn. The pigments reacted to iron, alminium, chrome and copper ions in water solution and the colour of solutions changed. The YEDDO-HAWTHORN pigments(NaOH, 0.1%) has most dyed silk and dved cotton fairly well, but polyamide and polyacrylnitril fabrics were not almost dyed by the pigments. In the colour fixing by means of mud the colour of fabrics in the use of mud was different from the use of iron solution. Therefor the colour fixing was influenced not only iron in the mud but the other components.
