It was once said that disciplinary disorders in the classroom such as uncontrollable chattering could be primarily, if not totally, attributed to the music class. This bad reputation seems to have a lot to do with such factors as the property of music classes that they necessarily deal with sounds, the teaching ability of the music teacher, and the society's views about music classes and music itself, among other things. This paper is a report of an educational experiment we performed with the goal of eliminating students' chattering and encouraging their active involvement in music leaming. We believe this experiment, an application of the behavioristic theory, has demonstrated that the reinforcement program we propose in this paper is highly effective to achieve that goal.
