A System of Rapid Clinical Test in the Central Clinical Laboratories , Yamaguchi University Hospital

Complete blood counts, 7 tests of blood coagulation and fibrinolysis, and 32 chemical analyses were classified as those clinical tests which must be done and the results reported very quickly. Two interconnected on-line analysis lines were constructed for this purpose. Each line consists of a registration terminal, a bar code labeller, sample transport lines, bar code readers, pickup arms between analyzers and transport lines. The data produced by the analyzers are screened with the quality control criteria, and then automatically edited and transferred to the laboratory data depository in the host computer which is freely accessible to registered personnels. One year's experience on this system is reviewed. The software for cooperation between the automated blood cell analyzer and manual microscopic analyses are yet to be worked out. This primitive system should serve as a basis for the future, more flexible, completely automated clinical laboratory system.
