Examination was initially made of the functions of fat digestion and absorption after moderate or major pancreatectomy and/or jejunectomy, by the custard cream puff test. Moderate pancreatectomy and jejunectomy caused dysfunction of both parameters. Major jejunectomy caused extensive damage than major pancreatectomy. The jejunum may possibly be more important for fat digestion and absorption. It is evident from the present findings that the small intestine should be resected in as short a time as possible during pancreatoduodenectomy.
