Elongated cells of Vibrio parahaemolyticus, V. alginolyticus and V. cholerae formed with cephalexin treatment were observed by scanning electron microscope. Constriction, swelling and spherical body formation were frequently observed in the elongated cell bodies. Free or attached spherical bodies to the elongated cells were sometimes seen. The elongated cells of V. cholerae frequently showed a helical or spiral status, whereas other two species did not it. This phenomenon is considered to be derived from the twisted form of cell body. This morphological characteristics may be useful as the comparative difference among above three species for classification.
