Amylase activity in urine was determined by a ゛chromogenic” method under the presence of various concentration of added albumin, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), or both. Either one of these macromolec ules enhanced the amylase activity up to 50%. By dissolving the reagent tables with 300 mg/dl PVP instead of pure water, it was possible to saturate the apparent activation and completely eliminate the effect of further addition of albumin. This simple modification of ”chromogenic″ amylase assay will mask the effect of albuminemia
