Molecular epidemiology of adenovirus type 3, 8 and 11

(1) 53 strains of adenovirus (Ad) type 8 were studied by and comparative study with respect to their respective DNA cleavege patterns, using 8 types of restrictive enzymes. As the result, no defferent subtypc was noted in 40 strains isolated from 1957 to 1958, Wheras two different subtypes were observed among 13 strains, which were isolated between 1981 and 1982. Accordingly, it is confirmed that three different subtypes were noted in Adenovirus type 8. (2) In the comparsion of one strain of Ad type 11 (isolated in 1958) with the prototype, some differences were observed in all cleavage patterns by 8 tyoes of restrictive enzymes. (3) In the strains of Ad type 3 (two strains isolated in 1958), no differences was observed in the cleavage pattern. In the comparsion woth Ad type 11 strain, the cleavage pattern of considerable similarity was noted.
