Between December, 1979, and November, 1987, arterial reconstructive procedure were performed on 7 patients (7 limbs) with the creation of an arterio-venous fistula (AVF) at the site of pisterior or anterir tibial anastomosis, which included femoro-popliteal-posterior tibial bypass in 3 of the patients, popliteal-posterior tibial bypass in 1, femoro-anterior tibial bypass in 1 and thromboend-arterectomy and/or throbbectomy of the lower extremity in 2. The AVF at the distal anastomosis was created by suturing the end-artey-to-side vein in the first two cases, while in the remaining five cases it was done by suturing the back walls of the artery and adjacent vein together and sewing the distal graft to the common ostium (Dardik method). A threat to limb survival that would otherwise rewuire major limb amputation was the indication for the need of operation
