1. The anthocyanins in young leaves of a garden rose “Samba” were isolated and identified by paper chromatographic method. The anthocyanins were cyanidin-3-glucoside, cyanidin-3,5-diglucoside and delphinidin-3,5-diglucoside. The fourth anthocyanin which occureed in very low concentration was inferred to be a pelargonidin-3-bioside, but the definite nature could not be disclosed. 2 The anthocyanin of so-called blue rose was cyanidin-3,5-diglucoside and in spite of the extensive surveys no delphinidin derivative has hitherto been found in rose petal. In the present experiment delphinidin-3,5-diglucoside was identified. The possibility and the limitation to pure blue rose were described.
