1. The development of starch granules in the endosperm cells of non-glutinous rice kernel on and after the flowering stage was observed by scanning electron microscope. 2. A number of the fine granular bodies amyloplast's amtecedents were formed in the endosperm cells on the 5th day after flowering. These bodies grew and developed to the ellipsoids by and by, and one compound starch granule was formed in each ellipsoid. 3. After the milky stage, single-like starch granules with compound starch granules of various size were observed in the endosperm cells in the immature parts of endosperm tissue. But these single-like ones were not observed with ripening.
