1. Lactic acid bacteria in Italian ryegrass silage were investigated. The additives on silage-making were wheat bran and lactic acid bacteria powder. The additives on silage-making were wheat bran and lactic acid becteria powder. The powder was consisted of the mixture of Calcium Carbonate and cultures of Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus brevis. After six months 16 strains were isolated from the silage and were identified. 2. 13 strains of them were L. brevis α, L. brevis β, and Lactobacillus buchneri. Other 2 strains were coli form bacteria and last one was Tetracoccus liquefaciens. 3. In the control lot being added no additive becteria (first lot), l.brevis α and βwere found. There were L. brevis αand β, coli form becteria in the secound lot with the addition of L. plantarum. L. brevis αandβ, L. buchneri and T. liquefaciens existed in the third lot with the addition of L. plantrum and L. brevis (1:1). 4. Although L. plantarum was added, the species could not be found in the secound and the third lots.
