Morphological aspects of the composed hyphae of colonies of the grape anthracnose fungus, Elsinoe ampelina SHEAR, on media at various temperatures were examined with the scanning electron microscope. The hemispheric colony (at 321C incubation) consisted of many fibral hyphae conglutinated one another. Many acute protuberances were observed on the surface of the hemispheric colony. This protuberances, too, consisted of many fibral hyphae conglutinated one another. The upheaved colony (at 251C incubation) consisted of many tortuous hyphae which were also conglutinated one another. On the surface of the colony of this type, many tortuous and fibral aerial hyphae were observed. On the irregular shaped colony (at 10C incubation), the aerial hyphae were recurved, twisted and densely conglutinated. Under these circumstances, the colonies of the fungus grew very slowly and showed the characteristic morphology as upheaved or hemispherical shape. No spore formation was observed.
