The eight soil profiles derived from basalt, andesite, granite, volcanic ash, limestone, sandstone, black schist and serpentine respectively were examined for the metalic trace-elements, such as Mn, Co, Cu, Zn and Ni. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The decreasing orders of rocks for each trace-element were Mn: andesite>serpentine>basalt>sandstone>black schist>granite≫limestone Co: serpentine≫basalt=black schist≒andesite>sandstone>granite≫limestone> Cu: andesite>serpentine>basalt≒sandstone>black schist>granite≫limestone Zn: serpentine≫black schist>basalt>andesite>granite>sandstone≫limestone Ni: serpentine≫basalt>andesite>black schist≒sandstone>granite≫limestone 2. The total contents of Mn, Co, Cu and Ni in any soil were related to the nature of the parent rocks. Thus, pedological factors have little effect on the distribution of Mn, Co, Cu and Ni in soils, although concentration of Mn in surface horizon was observed in all soil profiles examined. All soils showed a similar content of total Zn independently of the various Zn contents of the parent rocks, showing the predominant effect of pedological factor on Zn content in soils. ....
