The Hiuga-Hantiku was first named by Dr.Tomitaro MAKINO in 1914 as Phyllostachys bambusoides S. et Z. forma Tanakae MAKINO, and later in 1933 changed its scientific name to Phyllostachys reticulata C. KOCH forma Tanakae (MAKINO) NAKAI. It has long been recognized as a distinct species, though its figures on the culm are pathological. The pathogen which causes concentric beautiful figures on the culm is an Ascomycetous fungus named Asterinella hiugensis HINO et HIDAKA. The bamboo ground of the Hiuga－Hantiku is scanty in sunshine and much in humidity. The Hiuga－Hantiku is known to be merely found in Takaharu-mura,Miyazaki Prefecture.The good quality of the culm and the beautiful figures on its surface seem to be the best of the Hantikus known in the world. The preservation of the Hiuga.Hantiku as a national natural monument is to be immediately proposed. (Resumo en Esperanto)
