The emulsion of the dog parathyroid was injected into the thin white of hen's egg and its effects on the egg development was observed every week during the incubation. The results obtained were as follows : 1. At every stage of incubation and in both groups of the emulsion injected and the control, the amount of the dry matter of the egg shell was almost constantly retained. That accounted for 10 per cent of the weight of total fresh egg. 2. The shell of untreated egg diminished its calcium about 0.9 per cent (90mg), and this diminution was especially evident during the last week of incubation. 3. In the case of the parathyroid emulsion injected, the diminution of the shell calcium was more rapid and more remarkable, and at the end of the incubation the amount of the diminished calcium reached twice the control. 4. The effect of the parathyroid emulsion on the ossification of the chicken embryo appeared from the second week of hatching. In general it prevented the deposition of inorganic elements on the bone, and especially that of calcium.
