犬糸状虫抗原を用いた免疫ブロット検査により２０００年、11月から2001年8月にかけて、山口県内で飼育されている猫315頭（雄136頭、雌168頭、不明11頭）を対象に犬糸状虫の感染調査をしたところ、19頭（6.0％）が検査陽性と判定された。雄（12頭／136頭、8.8％）は雌（7頭／168頭、4.2％）より陽性率が高かったが有意差は認められなかった（P＝0.095）。屋内外を自由行動する猫（11頭／199頭、5.5％）と屋内飼育の猫（5頭／90頭、5.6％）との間の陽性率に有意差は認められなかった（P＝0.594）。猫の年齢別では、2歳以下（5頭／117頭、4.3％）、3～6歳（6頭／86頭、7.0％）および7歳以上（7頭／92頭、7.6％）の順に年齢が高くなるとともに陽性率は上昇したが有意差は認められなかった（P＝0.559）。東部（7頭／106頭、6.6％）、中部（6頭／123頭、4.9％）、西部（5頭／65頭、7.7％）および北部（1頭／11頭、9.1％）の地域間の陽性率に差は認められなかった。
