Misima Island is located in the Japan Sea about 25 miles apart from Hondo, and is about 7.8 sq. km. in area. The Misima-Usi has been inbreeded on this small island. This cattle has not been improved for a long time by any crossing with imported breeds. Hence, Misima-Usi is one of the best materials for the genetical study of Japanese Black-breed Cattle. The nose patterns collected from the Misima-Usi were classified into A-, B- and C-types after HABU's classification. They were then compared with the nose types of the ”Wagyu' (Improved Japanese Native Cattle). The writer found that the frequency in occurence cf nose patterns of the Misima-Usi is quite different from that of the ”Wagyfi”. The difference lies chiefly in the fact that the number of B-type MisimaUsi is almost a half of the total, while the percentage of the A-type is about a half of that of the ”Wagyu”.
