The fluctuation hypothesis (Ionin et al., 2004) holds that learners of English as a second or foreign language (ESL/EFL) will continue to make errors in their use of English articles until they switch their criteria for English article selection from specificity to definiteness. However, L1 language acquisition research indicates that young children who are L1 speakers use English articles accurately on the basis of whether the referent is specific or nonspecific before they acquire the definite–indefinite distinction. It is possible that Japanese EFL learners, like young L1 learners, can accurately use English articles employing the specific–non-specific distinction even before they master the definite–indefinite distinction. This study examined this hypothesis using Bickerton’s (1981) semantic wheel-based taxonomy and Díez- Bedmar and Papp’s (2008) tag-coding system. An analysis of 38 essays from the Nagoya Interlanguage Corpus of English Reborn showed that the specific– non-specific distinction can contribute to a highly accurate use of English articles for non-specific referents and relatively accurate article use for specific referents by Japanese EFL learners who have difficulty applying the definite– indefinite distinction. The pedagogical implications of the results were discussed.

For Chinese people, study abroad is an important matter. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many countries implemented travel regulation policies. Except for the early part of 2020, however, long term residents, including international students, were allowed to enter Japan. Despite the COVID pandemic, some of the degree program students entered Japan from abroad. In addition, as soon as the international travel regulations ended, a huge number of non-degree students including kenkyusei（ research students） and language program students rushed to Japan.

本稿は，日本語の二者自然会話における共同的発話現象の一つである「引き継ぎ」現象に焦点を当てている。引き継ぎ現象は，話者Aが開始した発話が，話者Bの発話によって統語的に継続される言語現象である。本稿では，単文レベルを対象に，様々なパターンの会話データを挙げるとともに，引き継ぎの生起と話者交替場所に現れる挿入要素との関係を究明した。その結果，挿入要素が特定の順序で現れ，その生起位置に対称性が存在することが明らかになった。また，この挿入要素の対称性が，引き継ぎ現象を起こしやすくしている要因となっていることも示唆した。

本研究では，在日留学生を対象に「目上の人との接し方」および「外国人に不慣れな日本人との接し方」に焦点を当てたソーシャルスキル学習を試み，その効果を検証した。その結果，ロールプレイを用いた練習により，行動レパートリーの拡充と日本人との交流意欲の高まりがみられた。スキル学習から1ヶ月後のフォローアップ調査では，学習したスキルの現実場面での実践や文化学習への動機づけの向上が確認できた。異文化適応支援としてのソーシャルスキル学習の効果が示唆された。

2021 年５月、就職相談を「就職相談・キャリア相談」へと変更した。コロナ禍で疲弊する学生たちの学生生活を含めたキャリア支援を明確にするためである。学生の相談ニーズは様々である。きっかけはエントリーシート添削であっても、主訴は生活苦であったり、学業への意欲喪失であったりである。必ずしも就職だけではない多様な状況への対応が必要とされ、その体制を整備してきた。就職支援室の相談は、就職活動の方法を教えるだけではなく、悩みに寄り添うだけでもない。ライフキャリアの観点からその両方に取り組む。適切にアドバイスをしながら、未来への一歩をアシストすることが求められる。

山口市大内地区において 2009年7月の豪雨により発生した浸水被害の特徴と土地利用の変遷について解析を行った。本地区は条里型地割が行われている水田地帯で あったが、1898年から約100年の旧版地図・空中写真の解析から、終戦後の1950年頃から水田の転用による宅地や商業地の開発が進んでいた。2009年豪雨による浸水被害は地区全体で450戸に上り、問田川両岸や旧国道262号に挟まれた標高の低い平地で顕著あった。開発にともなう水田の減少は、大内地区における雨水貯留機能を低下させており、本豪雨の浸水被害を大きくした要因の一つとして考えられた。

山口県中部の秋吉石灰岩においては、小澤(1923)が提案した層序の逆転について、決定的な形成モデルが提案されていない。本報告では、最近得られた知見に基づいて、形成モデル構築のための制限条件を検討する。それは、超巨大海山の衝突と生物礁の付加であり、逆転構造の広がりについての新たな地質情報である。また、海溝充填堆積物とされた常森層の形成場についての知見も重要である。これまで、確かな形成モデルが提案されなかったのは、現在の地球上に、秋吉石灰岩の逆転モデルに相当する地質イベントが存在しなかったことが関係している。斉一説に基づいた解釈が困難であったためである。今後は、新たな制約条件の下、新たな形成モデルの構築を図る必要がある。
