Alumina ceramic pins have been used for rib fixation after thoracotomy, because of their bone compatibility and strength. Stability at the fixation site with ceramic pins was investigated in 24 patients with lung cancer for two years using chest x-ray examinations. An original scoring system was applied: Score 0 : Pin was comfortable in the ribs, no dislocation of rib stumps occurred. Score 1
