We investigated the pollution due to eight volatile halocarbon compounds (VHC, i.e., CHCl_3. CHCl_2Br, CHClBr_2, CHBr_3, C_2HCl_3, C_2Cl_4, C_2H_3Cl_3 and CCl_4) in twenty nine drinking water samples. Trihalomethane(the combination of CHCl_3, CHCl_2Br, CHClBr_2 and CHBr_3) produced by chlorination was detected at 0.72-26.53μg/l in the drinking water tested. The other VHCs, the contamination from which generally occurred as a result of industrial activity, were detected at 0.02-0.38μg/l in six drinking water samples. For the purpose of the removal of VHCs from drinking water, two treatments namely heating, and using a water purifying cartridge filter were given to four concentration level samples adulterated with eight VHCs. The results were as follows
