アメリカ大手証券リーマン・ブラザーズの破綻に端を発した世界金融危機は、またたくまに世界経済危機へと拡がり、今後しばらくの間世界は大きな困難に直面することとなる。一方、日本国内では深刻な経済危機とともに、急激な少子高齢化が進行しており、持続可能なまちづくりが喫緊の課題となっている。こうした中、約60年ぶりに教育基本法が改正され、一連の教育法制度の改編が行われた。本稿では、教育法制度改編の動向と社会教育の現状を明らかにし、新たな時代の要請に応える社会教育の方向性を考察する。
