Descriptions
A 51-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of common bile duct stenosis. One month earlier, he suffered from a traffic accident. His abdomen was hit by a handle of the car at that time. Twenty six days later, cholestasis was found by a blood routine test incidentally. Computed tomography (CT), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed the smooth stenosis of the mid common bile duct. Cytological study of the bile showed classIII, and histological specimen showed no malignancy (class I ) . Diagnosis of benign stenosis of the mid common bile duct by a handle injury was established. Endoscopic balloon dilatation was performed three times, then the severity of the stenosis resolved with decrease in serum cholestatic enzyme levels. There is no sign and symptom without recurrence of the stenosis for these two months, so far. In accordance with increase of traffic accidents, we must pay attention to the case of traumatic biliary stricture which is presented here in detail.
