Descriptions
This study, determination was made of obesity based on body mass index(BMI) and body fat percentage, by the infrared interactance method in subjects compared of female students and local residents from 20 to 80 years old. The data for these group ware compared and are presented and discussed in the following. Body fat percentage significantly increased with age in female inhabitants. Body fat percentage in females, inhabitants were significantly greater than for males, BMI increased with are in males and females, and BMI in males was significantly more than in females from 20 and 50 years of age. A definite correlation was obtained between body fat percentage and BMI in males and females. A ratio of obesity based on body fat percentage, and BMI in males was significantly more than for females, and that of obesity in middle age or the elderly were more than for younger persons. Obesity found based on body fat percentage was more than that by BMI. Latent obesity percentage was obtained by dividing the number of high body fat percentages (more than 20% in males, and more than 30% females)by the number of low or normal BMI (less than 23.9, both male and female).Latent obesity percentage was 42.8% in males, and 29.5% in females. There was Thus a number of latently obese parsons among the subjects of this study. Latent obesity was seen more frequently in middle age and elderly than among younger persons. Actual normal body fat percentages calculated by dividing normal body fat percentage by the number of subjects with higher BMI(more than 24.0, both male and female) was 10.3% for males, and 19.8% for females. This parameter was greater for younger people and less for middle-aged or elderly. Female students and female inhabitants of identical age showed essentially the same BMI, though, body percentage in female students significantly exceeded those of the local female inhabitants. From these results, it would appear that body fat percentage in addition to BMI be known for determining of obesity in females students and local residents.
