Patho-histological Study on Edentulous Jaws

Although a variety of mechanisms have been considered by many investigators as to the pathogenesis of a progressive atrophy of edentulous jaw, they based their theory mainly on clinical observations and the reports of histologic study were few in number. The present investigation was undertaken to clarify pathological changes of completely edentulous jaws. Using 21 maxillae and 20 mandibles from 32 autopsy cases of 16 males and 16 female (age ranging from 42 to years), decalcified and undecalcified sections were prepared and in 9 cases blood vessels of mandible were infused with barium-gelatin mixture from the maxillary artery at autopsy for microangiography…
