[はじめに] : 平成10年度の学習指導要領の改訂によって小学校図画工作科、中学校美術科の授業時間は削減された。また、平成元年の改定以来、学校教育では我が国の歴史や伝統文化に触れたり、アジア諸国の内容にも触れることが促されている。先の改訂から7年を経て、美術教育の実際を知るために、山口県内の中学校美術科を対象としてアンケート調査を行った。その内容は日本的な美術表現と鑑賞に関わることと現在の美術科の問題点についての自由記述である。本稿はこれらのアンケートをもとに山口県での中学校の美術教育の実際の一部と問題点について紹介する。
