The laparoscopic cholecystectomies (LC) were experienced for fifteen patients from April to September, 1991 in our institute. The fourteen patients but a case, which the procedure was changed into laparotomy from LC because of intraabdominal hemorrhage, were the basis for this report. The twelve patients with standard cholecystectomy (SC) were selected as a control group who were considered to be indication of LC. The average operation time was 160 minutes in the LC group, while 105 minutes in the SC group with significant difference (p<0.01). The difference of the average operation time between the LC and SC group will shorten as technical maturity in near future. Total blood loss was less than 100 ml on both procedure. The beginning of walking and food intake after LC and gas discharge after LC were shorter than those in the SC group (p<0.01). In addition, the average hospital stay period in the LC group was shorter than that in SC. The LC will be performed more widely in view of its many medical and economical advantages.
