Fagaceae in the copmpound of 102 shrines in Abu County and 10 shrines in Hagi City was investigated. An about 2.5 species represented in one compund on the average. And eleven species, 8 broadleaf evergreen species and 3 broadleaf deciduous species, belonging to three genera, were found : Quercus salicina (in 46 shrines), Q. glauca (in 39), Q. sessilifolia (in 10), Q. acuta (in 7 ), Q. gilva (in 1) , Q. serrata (in 40), Q. acutissima (in 23), Castanopsis cuspidata (in 5 ), C. c. sieboldii (in 29), and Castanae crenata (in 47). Most of them were common species through district. Some of them, however, showed a considerable difference in distribution when shrines were subdivided into 4 districts. In a coastal district, Haga City, Abu-chyo, Susa-chyo and Tamagwa-chyo, C. c. sieboldii and Q. salicina were dominant species. In addition, Q, myrsinaefolia and Q. glauca were observed frequently. In a moutainous district, Mutsumi-son and Fukue-son, Q salicina and Q. serrata were exclusively dominant species. To contrast, any typical species was not found in other two districts, Atouchyo and Kawakami-son・Asahi-son, while composition of the species in both districts were intermediate between that of the coastal district and that of Yamaguchi City.
